About the Artist
Sandra Hoover is a fine artist, illustrator, and woodworker whose work is rooted in curiosity, craftsmanship, and a deep connection to the natural world. Working across painting, illustration, and wood, her creative practice explores storytelling, form, and the quiet dialogue between material and imagination.
Artist Statement
Artists are always asked, “Why do you make art?”
Most times the response is, “I make art because…”
I believe that it is the word, “because” that defines the artist. For myself, it is “because” I am compelled to create. I live to create. The very act of creating, the process of making something from nothing, the state of communion with the creative source is indescribably vexing and exhilarating at the same time. I’m the pin ball in the pinball machine, bouncing from point to point until the ball falls into the slot and damn if I don’t put my quarter back into the machine and play it all over again, “because…”
